Colin’s Academic Pedigree

Colin Nix hails from Boston, Massachusetts, and attended the Fessenden School and Governor’s Academy. Located in West Newton, Massachusetts, Fessenden is a private, independent education leader and has been at the forefront of boys’ education for 120 years. The school aims to cultivate students’ talents and develop their characters, minds, and bodies in an inclusive, supportive, and positive environment.

At Fessenden, Colin Nix learned to practice and value hard work, intellectual endeavor, honesty, compassion, and respect. The school encourages students to explore their identity and how it influences how they perceive the world. They become confident in taking risks because they understand that mistakes are opportunities for learning and progress, not failures.

Colin Nix had a strong foundation established at an early age at Fessenden. Like his fellow alums, he was empowered to pursue his passions and help make a significant impact in both big and small ways. He joins the ranks of many authors, musicians, athletes, top-level government officials, entrepreneurs, and game changers.

After Fessenden, Colin Nix attended the Governor’s Academy, a college preparatory day and boarding school in Byfield, Massachusetts. Colin learned the impact of service and volunteer work and continues to serve others in his community. Colin also lived and studied abroad at TASIS (The American International School) in Thorpe, England. He then studied English Literature and Business Finance at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Paying It Forward

One of the most essential life lessons Colin Nix learned early on is the power of giving back. He is a donor/volunteer at VOALA/Volunteers of America. A faith-based non-profit human services organization, VOALA is committed to serving people in need, strengthening families, and building communities. It has diverse programs for children, youth, families, adults, women, and veterans.

Colin also donates to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Folds of Honor. Headed by Lieutenant Colonel Dan Rooney, Folds of Honor is a nonprofit that helps provide the families of fallen and disabled service members and first responders with educational scholarships. More than 52,000 educational scholarships have been awarded since 2007.

As an animal lover, his volunteer work includes animal rescue, dog adoption, and dog obedience training and support. He also volunteers at a Local Animal Shelter and Clinic Parks and Recreation, including fundraising for pet adoption, veterinarian care, and various wildlife initiatives.

A Sports Enthusiast with Golf at the Top of the List

Colin Nix has played various sports, including ice hockey and basketball. He also enjoys downhill skiing. But golf is his first love, which he learned from his father and grandfather as a kid.

Colin loves everything about golf. He is a golf historian, learning all about famous golf courses and landmarks – from the legendary Old Course at St Andrews Links, with its iconic landmarks like the Hell Bunker, the Road Hole, and the Swilcan Bridge, to Augusta National, which stages the Masters every year; Pebble Beach Golf Links; Carnoustie Golf Links (Scotland); Royal County Down (Ireland); and many others.

He also loves playing and providing golf instruction to youth looking to pick up the game. Colin teaches and educates kids on the fundamentals of the golf swing and the game’s etiquette on and off the course—valuable life lessons they can take with them throughout adulthood.

Sports participation allows Colin to compete, get in physical activity, enjoy the outdoors, sharpen his mental acuity, achieve a sense of calmness while focused on the game, and interact with others.

Colin’s Other Passions, Hobbies

Colin is interested in art collecting, preservation, and display. His primary focus is on contemporary artists, but he also includes various historical Impressionists. He enjoys reading historical biographies and cooking foreign cuisine, especially French, Italian, and Japanese.

His interests are ideally suited for traveling and experiencing the traditions and people of other countries. He has traveled extensively throughout the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Italy, immersing himself in the history, culture, and food of the places he visits.

Colin resides in Paradise Valley, Arizona, with his two French Mastiffs. He is a member of the United States Golf Association, the Arizona Golf Association, and Best Friends Animal Society.
